Taking care of your jewelry preserves it for years. Consistent cleaning and proper storage can help avoid damage, and professional inspections keep it in tip top shape. With the right care, you can enjoy your jewelry's elegance every day.
METALS
Avoid large amounts of hand sanitizer, harsh chemicals like cleaning supplies, bleach and chlorine, as they can damage gold, platinum, and silver. These substances can cause hidden corrosion over time. Remove your jewelry before swimming or hard labor like exercising or gardening (even with gloves) to prevent scratches and tarnishing. Store pieces separately in a cool place to avoid tangling and scratching.
(Wearing latex gloves can also wear down prongs over time)
GEM STONES
Precious stones differ in durability, as by the Mohs hardness scale, which ranges from 1 (talc) to 10 (diamond). Sapphires and rubies have a hardness of 9, while others score lower, making them more vulnerable to damage.
To ensure your stones remain intact, steer clear of harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, and abrasive surfaces, and store them separately to avoid scratches.
